“I like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete. It's so f*@&in' heroic.”

George Carlin

Famous comedian George Carlin was never one to mince words.  Despite his brash, "don't hold back" approach, he nailed it with this quote.

There are truly few things that are more beautiful, more "heroic", than the satisfaction of overcoming unfavorable circumstances.
It's precisely this belief that brought the INHABIT mission to life.

Our vision materialized in 2020.

At the start of the year, we were both experiencing some serious growth in our careers.  Much of which was directly related to the wellness foundation established through years of research and practice. Utilizing consistent meditation routines, coupled with ancient wellness techniques, we built the framework to withstand months of mental and physical anguish to achieve our career goals.

For Sean - restless nights and early mornings meant he would land a Mid-Market Account Executive role at his San Francisco tech company, a dream of his since starting in the field. For Alyssa - she leveraged her skills and catapulted into a managerial role in product design with her company.

All the stress, anxious thoughts, and the questioning of our competence were finally put to rest. Life as we had envisioned it, was beginning to fall into place.

Fast forward a few months, in a time of extreme uncertainty for millions around the world, the pandemic was running rampant.  Fortunately, we were able to maintain our health and employment status, but the same couldn't be said for many of our friends and family.

So many around us were struggling.  Not just physically, but they were suffering a debilitating mental health decline they had never experienced before.

All around the country the data was shocking. The numbers of Americans battling anxiety, depression, drug abuse, and more was as high as its's even been.  The visceral impact we felt was devastating.

"How can we cherish the joys in our lives when those closest to us are being stripped of the joys in theirs?"

We laid awake at night pondering this question for weeks.

It became crystal clear that we as a society were completely unprepared for this.  How could we be?  This was an unthinkable occurrence, and one that we hadn't seen in this country in over 100 years. Very few people had the necessary tools to mentally and physically navigate the pandemic.

As a result, millions of people were left behind, forced to overcome the deaths, health concerns and financial depletion that devastated our citizens. Many of these individuals are still dealing with the lingering effects over two years later.

In our hearts, we knew we couldn't sit back and do nothing. With the wellness toolbox we had filled over the years prior to 2020, we were confident we could provide the same benefits to others that had so greatly improved our lives.

With this realization, Sean made the nerve-wracking decision to quit the career he had worked so hard to build, choosing instead to dedicate his time to building up the community.

With that, INHABIT was born.

Through our live events and workshops, we have connected with thousands of people across the country to help them address their stress and anxiety in a healthy and sustainable manner and break through their personal "concrete".

We are building up those who feel broken down.

Welcome to INHABIT.

Music Maniac

Self-taught at the age of 10, I've always used guitar, piano and songwriting as a way to express my feelings in a healthy way.  I was raised in a musical household, so much so, that my brother, Todd, became a professional guitarist!

My journey to better mental health and emotional connection began about 10 years ago. As a college student at The University of Massachusetts, the academic, social, and societal demands of a student-athlete weighted heavy on me. Feelings of stress, depression, and anxiety seemed to be as routine as brushing my teeth.

It was then that a friend introduced me to meditation and mindfulness practices, which truly transformed the way I approached my life.

Fast forward to 2015, I was a young, hungry tech salesman in San Francisco, eager to get to a Mid-Market Account Executive role.

I worked my ass off day in and day out.

The stress and expectations of a fast-faced startup environment were at times unbearable.

It was only through my consistent meditation practices, coupled with newly discovered ancient wellness practices that I was able to push through and achieve my goal.

The 6:00 AM cold showers, early morning meditations in the LYFT commutes to work, lunch break workouts, and pre-sales call breathing sessions had paid off immensely.

Still, the world around me was changing drastically due to the pandemic.

Suddenly, the success of my career paled in comparison to the mental and physical suffering I was witnessing from my friends and family.

I saw the way the world was begging for help and realized we as a society were not equipped with the foundational skills to overcome the drastic change in lifestyle we were experiencing.

This realization led me to make the tough decision to leave my sales role and start INHABIT alongside my partner, Alyssa.

This journey has been the most fulfilling experience of my life, and I am so excited to continue to share and participate in my passion with you in the beautiful wine country of Sonoma, California.

Alyssa Murray

Designer

Raised in the peaceful serenity of Sonoma Valley, California, I have always had a deep connection and appreciation for the unwavering beauty of the natural world.

From spending time with our ponies and goats on the farm, to tending to our ever-growing vegetable garden, the calmness of being in harmony with nature sets the tone for everything we do at INHABIT.

In 2013, with a newly acquired degree in Design from UC Davis, I reluctantly traded in the countryside for city life, starting my career in Product Design in San Francisco.

I've worked for a number of tech companies and organizations committed to creating positive impact, both at a community and global level.  That led me to my current role with Instacart, designing their shopper customer experience for their app.

At INHABIT, my primary focus is brand development, design, and video and photography.  Anything and everything to bring our vision to life!

I have always found joy in the simple things that life has to offer, and finding our way back to Sonoma has helped us to get back to living our healthiest and happiest life.

We are excited to welcome you into our home through INHABIT.
